Quite possibly the most affordable and simple snack on the market. Whether you’re a gourmet chef or a burn-everything beginner, I promise you can learn how to make Rice Krispie Treats.

Here’s what you need to make Rice Krispie treats and what it should cost, according to Target:

  • 3 Tbsp. of butter ($2.99/lb.)
  • 1 bag (10 oz.) of marshmallows ($0.99/bag)
  • 6 cups of Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® cereal ($2.99/box)

If you’re looking for something a bit more exciting in looks or flavor, try these substitutions:

  • Instead of Rice Krispies, try Fruity Pebbles™ or Cocoa Krispies® for a totally different flavor!
  • Swap original marshmallows with fun flavored marshmallows. Try the heart-shaped strawberry kind to make festive treats for your boo next month.
  • Get creative when you cut. Who said they have to be served in squares anyway? Grease up a cute cookie cutter and go in.

Now, here’s how to make the Rice Krispie treats:

  1. In a small pot, melt the butter with the burner set to low heat. When the butter melts, add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. TIP: Grease your spoon because those marshmallows are sticky! When it’s all ooey and gooey, take the pot off the heat.
  2. Add cereal and stir until each bite is stuck in marshmallow deliciousness.
  3. Coat a casserole dish with cooking spray and make yourself a little wax paper glove to press the batter into the dish. TIP: the bigger the dish, the thinner the treats will be and the more treats there will be for cutting.

Just in case that’s not simple enough for you (no judgment sis, the stovetop can be a risky place) you can also make these treats in the microwave! Attention college students, you can make these in the microwave!!

Here’s how to make Rice Krispie treats in the microwave:

  1. Instead of a small pot on the stove, use a microwave-safe bowl to heat the butter and marshmallows. Microwave on high for 3 minutes, stirring after 2 minutes. Stir it all up with that same greasy spoon I recommended earlier.
  2. Follow steps 2 and 3 from the stovetop directions above.

Can you believe how easy it is to make Rice Krispie treats?! I mean, you can whip these up almost anywhere from your home to a hotel room. Try out some creative variations and let me know what you think!
